Project Information --- The interpretive historic signage project was undertaken by the Barrington Preservation Society with funding from the RI Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission, Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, The Bay Team, and Fuel Belt, Inc.

Seven signs are installed along the path at Haines Park, Bay Spring Avenue, Alfred Drown Road, Little Echo, Brickyard Pond, Barrington Town Center and New Meadow Neck.  An additional sign is installed at Barrington’s Civic Center Historic District/Town Hall area.Syd

The Barrington Preservation Society’s Education Committee implemented this project.  The project’s work included historical research and finding relevant oral history stories about the various neighborhoods.  Also a complete review of photographs in the BPS Museum collection was done.  Some photos used in the signage were donated by area families.

Project director, Sydney Montstream-Quas says:
“Through the work involved in doing this project, we’ve had the opportunity to learn much from local citizens through their captivating oral histories. As people pass the historic signs on the bike path, I hope those of all ages will recognize and appreciate the rich industrial, agricultural, and maritime history that Barrington’s citizens created more than a hundred years ago.”Applause
